19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A revitalized Medvedev won his maiden title for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has had a torrid year, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-time mentor Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden championship since the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt after spring of 2023.

Victory also signifies the Russian has won 21 titles at 21 different events.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my children together, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my child her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

His retrieving strategy and recurring reactions on the tennis court had led commentators to question if his ability to compete at the highest level was over.

But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and play positively, reinforced by an better service.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, taking four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

Both players traded breaks in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his initial ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to force a final set.

He defended four early chances in a tight final set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched victory with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
