From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative including angels, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in strength within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of characters who will separate from the main group to begin their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem out of place, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the party understands precisely where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose death initiated the story’s plot—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.
Casimir then paid off his debts and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each member has a individual motive to exit the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants retribution.
- Kattigan has experience in the region and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- But, their position as key figures in the influential clan could assist the party access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This results in them little choice but to travel to Timmony in search of the antagonist.
